Irminsul Newsletter
Volume 1 - Issue 3 - September/October 2003
- Tiller Talk - Editorial
- Rurik Grimnisson
- Greetings reader,
recently I have been appraising the variations of the Hologram
Reality Theory. Any who are familiar with this cannot be but struck
by its similarities with the esoteric teachings of the Indo-European
mystical schools - especially the Vedic and Buddhist yogic doctrines
of the Chakra [psychic vortexes] and their interdimensional integration.
Yet most westerners and many folk who follow the Northern Tradition
arent fully aware that the ancient Teutons possessed an
equally deep understanding of the cosmic reality.
- The Ravens Caw - Editorial
- Dirk Schmitt
- Strength of Character
Ego
Self Assurance
Assertiveness, all lovely words,
all designed to empower the self, but what is the
use of it, if we hold all these things inside of ourselves? In
our modern mono-culture we, the folk, are taught to defer, to
be quiet, to be sheep, to eschew pride in our works and deeds,
and to continually say sorry for all the ills we have brought
upon the world, solely through our inherent evilness, our greed
and corruption
or so we are led to believe.
- Lithend - Serial Story
- Henry Lauer
- Lithend had once
been a small, if vital, farming centre, a warm island pushing
out from the endless seas of grass and tree and hill that surrounded
it for many miles. Its ruler, a wise and deadly magician, was
much liked, for he had mastered the correct balance of brutality
and generosity necessary for a small town to be self-sufficient,
yet not stretched beyond its limits in the battle to survive each
winter.
- Silver Hoard found
on Isle of Man - Article by Ulfrikr - Dirk Schmitt
- In the month of March
of this year, whilst out using his metal detector, Andy Whewell
uncovered what is considered to be a find of international significance
on the Isle of Man.
- Vefrett Valu - The
Oracle of the Vala - Article - Sandra Thompson & Kristin Petursdottir
- In Iceland children
use a small knuckle-like bone from a leg of lamb, called a vala,
to ask questions about the future, much as adults might consult
a horoscope or open a fortune cookie. The children place the one-inch
bone on the bridge of their noses or on their foreheads, depending
on district customs. Reciting a thula, a rhymed incantation, taught
by mothers and grandmothers (ammas) in the age-old ways oral tradition,
they implore the bone--addressed as a spakona (woman of vision;
soothsayer) or vala - to tell them the truth. A typical thula:

- Owls Hoot - On Mead
- Serial Article - Geirr Fokstuen
- 2nd well, Urd. The
well of warming and protection. The Norns are the
keepers of Urd which is situated under the southern (hot) root
of the world-tree, where as related in Forspjallsljóð
(wrath-damage-stanza), they daily sprinkle the root with Odrerir,
which provides a protective warmth against the devastating cold
during the terrible three-year long winter magically created by
spurned artists. Though Odrerir warming capability was hard put
to the task in the end.
- Einar's Saga - Historical
Fiction Serial - Rurik Grimnisson
- While they were in
the butchering shed Astrid came running
to the open door, her keys and scissors jangling on their
chains. Her strong features wore a disconcerted look and her
dark ash blond hair was falling from under her headscarf. She
didn't speak but indicated to her husband to come outside. He
placed his fine boning knife on a bench and followed her.
Hundi chased up the rear.
- Fortresses of Gotland
- Torsburgen - Article - Dirk Schmitt
- Torsburgen is a fortification
located on the island of Gotland
in the country of Sweden. It can be found in Eastern Gotland
and is sign posted to the right off the road traveling between
Kräklingbo and Östergarn, being 3 to 4km south of Kräklingbo.
- The Thong of Thor
- Musical Myrth - uncovered by Tyrvald
- This little joke
has been around for years, an interesting expression
of the folk spirit, but this time we have it in song
form. It is to no degree Politically Correct, and should you
have a weak stomach, or be lacking in the capacity of having
a sense of humour, we suggest you turn away now

1230, by
